卡尔加里大学成立于1945年，原属于阿尔伯塔大学，1966年成为单独的大学。卡尔加里大学是加拿大综合排名前七的研究性大学，泰晤士报高等教育世界综合排名前170，提供一百多个学科的学士、硕士、博士项目，提供灵活的教学项目和跨学科学位以便增强学生的学习经验，它的Haskayne School of Business 是加拿大获得 AACSB 国际认证的 17 所商学院之一。卡尔加里大学在国内国际的科研与教学地位渐趋重要，目前已列入加拿大大学科研力量十强。她不但是九个国家优秀科研中心的成员，也是全国唯一的特优资质教育中心。
