学校概况：

剑桥大学（University of Cambridge）成立于1209年，是世界十大学府之一。剑桥大学位于风景秀丽的剑桥镇，著名的剑河横贯其间。和牛津大学齐名为英国的两所最优秀的大学，被合称为Oxbridge，89位诺贝尔奖得主出自此校，剑桥大学是英国名校联盟“罗素大学集团”（Russell Group）和欧洲的大学联盟科英布拉集团（Coimbra Group）的成员。

剑桥大学有35个学院，三个女子学院，两个专门的研究生院。剑桥大学最大的特色是学院制，35所风格各异的学院史背景不同，每个学院在经济上自负盈亏，因此各个学院在行政财务，招生教学，都有很大的自主权。各学院内部录取步骤各异，每个学院在某种程度上就像一座微型大学，有自己的校规校纪。在毕业典礼上，最能看到剑桥大学是如何重视学院的。每个学生都要由学院院长牵手引到校长面前跪下，接受祝福，象征他是由学院教导成材。

剑桥大学所处的剑桥（Cambridge）是一个拥有10万居民的英格兰小镇，距英国首都伦敦不到100千米，这个小镇有一条河流穿过，被命名为“剑河”（River Cam，也译作“康河”），早在公元前43年，罗马士兵就驻扎在剑河边，后来还在剑河上建起了一座大桥，这样，河名和桥加住一起，就构成了剑桥这一地名。绝大多数的学院、研究所、图书馆和实验室都在这个镇上，此外还有20多所教堂。

剑桥大学现有超过150所科系和研究机构，科系的成员通常也是一所或多所学院的成员，通常负责大学的学术和研究工作。

大学的科系和研究机构被组合为六所主要的科系，每个主要科系由许多科系和研究机构组成，并拥有一个议会负责监督不同机构的教学和研究工作。剑桥大学六所主要的科系是：艺术和人文、生物科学（包括兽医医药）、临床医学、人文和社会科学、自然科学、技术。除此之外，剑桥大学的一些机构也负责大学的教学和研究，这包括剑桥大学考试委员会、剑桥大学出版社和大学图书馆。
